Capacity-building refers to activities which enhance the ability of local communities to develop and manage their own resources. It can include CSR practices that build resource governance capacity, improve local and regional economic planning, or otherwise enable communities to maximize the benefits of the extractive sector. At the Canadian operation, local community members contribute to the operation through a number of services including ore haulage and cleaning etc. We are also a sponsor of the Aboriginal Women in Mining initiative. Historically we were participants in the Federal ASEP.

In British Columbia, we work closely with our Aboriginal partners in workforce development and helping them to establish business ventures that can support our projects. We also help local communities in capacity building to allow them to better meet the needs of their residents.
