Main objective The Green Construction through Wood (GCWood) is a new program that aims to catalyze a long-term transformational change in which more intensive use of sustainably harvested wood becomes a commonly considered option in construction projects in Canada, with broader benefits being realized, including GHG emission reductions and economic growth.  Key activities include:
1.  Support research and development activities to encourage changes to the National Building Code of Canada (NBCC), which are developed by the Canadian Commission on Building and Fire Codes and published by the National Research Council (NRC), to allow for taller and larger wood buildings, and where possible work towards a performance-based (material neutral) code.
2.  Facilitate advanced training and education, and develop design tools for architects, engineers and builders, including course curriculums, costing tools and life-cycle assessment tools.
3.  Encourage the commercialization of wood in construction projects including low-rise commercial buildings, high-rise buildings, and timber bridges through demonstration projects.
