Project Objectives

Through the development of a new partnership agreement, the Council of Haida Nation, Skidegate Band Council, and Old Masset Village Council are working together to advance clean energy solutions on Haida Gwaii. To meet clean energy needs in the communities, the team is implementing coordinated Haida energy governance, advancing two large solar projects, pursuing energy efficiency upgrades for housing, and exploring the feasibility of additional clean energy technologies such as wind and tidal. The Haida Nation is working toward 100% diesel reduction by 2030.

Expected Results

This coordinated Haida Gwaii-wide approach will see many positive outcomes for the Haida Nation and will support Haida ethics and values including respect, responsibility, interconnectedness, balance, seeking wise counsel, giving and receiving, and making things right.

Beyond a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, these projects will increase energy reliability, reduce diesel pollution, promote community inclusiveness, increase self-governance and energy independence, provide local jobs, and generate revenue to directly support Haida communities.
