Project Objectives
The project aims to demonstrate and deploy distributed energy resource (DER) technologies in an innovative micro-grid and increase the adoption of decentralized renewable energy generation.
The project will test control of DER technologies such as batteries, solar panels, vehicle charging stations, and home automation equipment in an intelligent micro-grid to help support the grid and reduce environmental impacts.
Expected Results
This project will result in making Lac Mégantic the first smart city in Québec. It will become a living laboratory, allowing testing of new concepts and business models in real-life conditions, while promoting the active involvement of end-users in the process of open innovation in the energy industry.
This project will reduce non-renewable energy consumption by Canadians through such means as demand management and the integration and aggregation of distributed resources. It will increase the adoption of decentralized or local renewable energy production, with the goal of deploying the model at other Canadian and North American communities.
