January 2009 to September 2015

This multi-million dollar project was funded by Global Affairs Canada (GAC) and was executed by the Earth Sciences Sector (ESS) of Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) under a Memorandum of Understanding between Canada and Senegal. This project was developed in collaboration with the Government of Senegal. It serves as a guidebook toward achieving the country’s goals in relation to geospatial information. The related measures aimed to build capacity for the retrieval, processing, analysis and dissemination of information, creating more effective governance through a structured and harmonized management of land and resources, both human and natural.

The Canadian private sector received contracts highlighting Canadian capability and opening markets for Canadian companies in Western Africa.

ESS was directly involved in the creation of the series of materials demonstrating how geospatial data can be developed into useful tools, such as customizable models for tracking outbreaks of malaria and ebola and/or providing a standardized address system to assist in emergencies.
